ONTARIO, Calif. — A coach in LaVar Ball’s Junior Basketball Association on Thursday roughed up one of his team’s players during a timeout.
Edward Denard, head coach of the Chicago Ballers, twice shoved forward Montrell Dixson in the chest with his fists and later knocked his forehead against the side of Dixson’s face.
The incident, which took place when Denard called the timeout with 1:24 left in Chicago’s 115-97 loss to the Seattle Ballers at Citizens Business Bank Arena, was captured during the game broadcast.
“Hey, that’s my bad, I guess,” Dixson can be heard saying during the timeout, whereupon Denard turned and glared at the player.
“Get the (expletive) ball. Stop being a (expletive),” Denard snapped before knocking his forehead against the side of Dixson’s face.
Dixson replied with inaudible remarks and the coach got back in the player’s face.
“What you gonna do?” the coach said. “What you gonna to do, huh? What the (expletive) you going to do?”
The coach then returned to the huddle, and the player, pulled from the game, took a seat on the bench.
Bryanna Sims, who handles media relations for the league, did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment via email. A request for comment made through the league’s general email address also went unreturned.
