We are officially 50 days out from the first college football Saturday of the 2018 season, and Florida Atlantic is already winning.
The defending Conference USA champs released a hype video Friday – like so many other programs – celebrating the seven-week countdown to the start of the season. But the Owls’ clip stood out from the rest, thanks to the juxtaposition of the galvanizing images and the accompanying music.
It’s less than 30 seconds so watch it twice – first with the sound muted and then with it on. It will likely elicit two different feelings and enhance the enjoyment of it the second time around.
How many hype videos truly make you wish they were longer? Well, this one does.
Screaming football fans impersonating rock star groupies as head coach Lane Kiffin and his players exit their team bus is perfectly contrasted by Gene Wilder singing an iconic song from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
It also draws an unexpected but valid comparison between Kiffin and the character Willy Wonka.
So yes, FAU is already beating its college football competition because of this 26-second hype video. It’s inspired, it’s original and it makes an apt comparison between the team’s head coach and a beloved children’s book and movie character.
However, if that’s not your thing, the Owls previously put out another hype video that will make you want to run through a wall. Additional props for the song choice, this time using Destiny Child’s Survivor.
Here are a few other college football teams’ hype videos celebrating the 50-day mark that are also well done.
